混雑前の早朝の時間帯を狙って、一足先に五稜郭公園の桜を拝見してきた。

ソフトクリームは当然ながら美味。私がいただいたのはチョコ味、粒状のチョコが混ぜ込まれている。

また、牛乳は100円で飲み放題に。濃厚な味が楽しめる。

4月30日時点では、まだつぼみの段階。

復元後はじめて見たが、なかなか立派なたたずまいでした。

奉行所前に設置されている解説の内容は次のとおり。

箱館奉行所は、幕末の箱館開港により設置された江戸幕府の役所で、奉行所の防御施設として築造されたのが五稜郭です。

安政4年（1857）に着工して7年後の元治元年（1864）に完成し、蝦夷地の政治的中心となりました。

明治維新の際には戊辰戦争最後の戦いである箱館戦争の舞台となり、明治4年（1871）に奉行所庁舎は解体されました。

それから140年の時を経て、平成22年（2010）に箱館奉行所が復元されました。

Hakodate Magistrate’s Office was established by the shogunate government at the time of the opening of Hakodate port, and Fort Goryokaku was built to guard the magistrate’s office.

The construction started in 1857, and when completed 7 years later in 1864, it became an administrative center of Ezo region.

It was in Goryokaku that the Battle of Hakodate was fought to be the last battle of the Boshin War during the Meiji Restoration. The magistrate’s office was then demolished in 1871.

Some 140 years later, in 2010, Hakodate Magistrate’s Office was restored to its original state.

五稜郭公園にあった碑。「男爵薯を讃ふ」。

道南で花見と言えばジンギスカン。ジンギスカンには炭火、ということで、あまった炭を処理するための装置が設置されている。

箱館戦争と特別史跡五稜郭跡

江戸湾から軍艦8隻と共に脱走した榎本武揚率いる旧幕府脱走軍が箱館に入り、五稜郭を占拠したのは、明治元年（1868年）10月。新政府軍との戦いに敗れ、降伏したのはわずか7ヶ月後のことでした。五稜郭は新政府軍に明け渡され、戊辰戦争最後の戦いとなった箱館戦争の終結とともに、長い間続いた封建制度がここで終わりを告げました。日本の新しい時代が始まったのです。

 

HAKODATE BATTLE AND THE SPECIAL HISTORIC SITE “FORT GORYOKAKU”

The warriors of the fallen Tokugawa Shogunate led by Enomoto Takeaki escaped from Edo with a fleet of 8 warships, reached Hakodate and occupied Fort Goryokaku in October 1868. These forces were defeated by the Japanese Imperial Army and surrendered to them just seven months later. Fort Goryokaku was taken over by the Japanese Imperial Army and thus with the end of Boshin War and signified the beginning of a new era in Japan.

特別史跡　五稜郭跡（五稜郭公園）

箱館奉行が、蝦夷地（北海道）を統治するために、役所を新築する敷地として整備した洋式の城郭です。5つの突角をもつ星型であるところから五稜郭と呼ばれています。

蘭学者武田斐三郎の設計で安政4年（1857年）着工。

元治元年（1864年）完成。昭和27年3月、国の特別史跡に指定されました。

THE SPECIAL HISTORIC SITE “FORT GORYOKAKU” (GORYOKAKU PARK)

This fort was made by the commissioner of Hakodate as the site for a new office which governed Ezo (Hokkaido). “Goryokaku” named after its pentagonal star shape was western style fort desinged by Takeda Ayasaburo, a Japanese scholar of Dutch studies. Building started in 1857 and was completed in 1864. It was designated as a national special historic site in March 1962.

榎本武揚

天保7年〜明治41年（1836年〜1908年）。江戸（東京都）生。オランダ留学後、幕府海軍副総裁。慶応4年（1868年）旧幕府脱走軍を率いて品川沖を出発し、五稜郭を占拠しました。

ENOMOTO TAKEAKI (1836-1908)

Born in Edo (Tokyo) and having studied in the Netherlands, he became the Vice Admiral of the Shogunate Navy. Leading the warriors of the fallen Tokugawa Shogunate, he escaped from off-shore of Shinagawa in Edo Bay in 1868 and occupied Fort Goryokaku.

土方歳三

天保6年〜明治2年（1835年〜1869年）。武蔵国（東京都）生。近藤勇らとともに新撰組を結成。仙台で榎本等と合流し、脱走軍では陸軍奉行並となります。明治2年5月11日箱館の一本木関門（現若松町）付近で戦死。

HIJIKATA TOSHIZO (1835-1869)

Born in Musashi (Tokyo). He organized “Shinsengumi” with Kondo Isami and others. After joining Enomoto’s forces in Sendai, he became the vice-commander of grand unit in the forces. He was killed in battle near “Ippongikanmon” (now Wakamatsu-cho) on May 11th, 1869.

箱館奉行所

当初、箱館奉行所は函館山山麓にありましたが、開港後、内陸の亀田（現五稜郭町）に五稜郭を築き奉行所を移転させました。

写真は慶応年間（1865〜1868年）のものです。

At first, the commissioner’s office was located at the foot of Mt.Hakodate. After the opening of Hakodate Port, the office was relocated to inside Fort Goryokaku, in-land Kameda (now Goryokaku-cho). This photograph was taken in the period of Keio (1865-1868).

特別史跡五稜郭跡

五稜郭跡は、幕末の箱館開港に伴い設置された箱館奉行所の防御施設で、箱館奉行配下の諸術調所教授役で蘭学者の武田斐三郎成章により、中世ヨーロッパで発達した城塞都市を参考に設計された西洋式土塁です。稜堡とよばれる5つの突角が星形の五角形状に土塁がめぐっていることから五稜郭と呼ばれ、郭内には日本伝統建築の箱館奉行所庁舎とその付属建物20数棟が建てられました。

安政4年に築造を開始して7年後の元治元年に竣工、同年6月に奉行所が移転して蝦夷地における政治的中心地となりました。その後、明治維新により明治新政府の役所となりましたが、明治元年10月に榎本武揚率いる旧幕府脱走軍が占拠、翌明治2年5月に終結する箱館戦争の舞台となりました。箱館戦争後は、明治4年に開拓使により郭内建物のほとんどが解体され、大正時代以降は公園として開放されています。

五稜郭跡は、築造時の形態がよく残っていて日本城郭史上重要であるとともに、幕末期の洋学採用の一端を示すものとして学術上きわめて価値が高いことから、北海道で唯一の国の特別史跡に指定されています。

 

Special National Historic Site, Goryokaku

Designated on March 29, 1952

Fort Goryokaku was built to guard Hakodate Magistrate’s Office at the end of Edo period when Hakodate port was opened to international trade. Takeda Ayasaburo, a scholar of Dutch studies and a lecturer of School of Various Arts subordinated to the magistrate’s office, modeled this fort after medieval European fortified cities, With its five bastions pentagonally located, the fort came to be known as Goryokaku. Inside Goryokaku was built the magistrate’s office in the traditional Japanese style as well as 20 other buildings and structures appertaining to it.

The construction started in 1857 and was completed in 1864, when the magistrate’s function was transterred here to serve as the administrative center of Ezo region. After the Meiji Restoration, it continued to be used as an administrative office by the new Meiji government. In 1868, Goryokaku was occupied by the forces of soldiers headed by Enomoto Takeaki who were loyal to the old shogunate regime. As a result, the fort became the stage of the Battle of Hakodate that ended in May of the following year. After the battle, however, most buildings inside the fort were dismantled by the Development Commission in 1871. It has been open to public as a recreation area since Taisho period.

Its earthworks being intact, Goryokaku is important for the study of old Japanese fort structure. It is also of high historical value as an example of early adoption of Western technologies and, therefore, Goryokaku was designated as a Special National Historic Site, the only one in Hokkaido.

根津神社

国指定建造物

文京区根津1-28-9

日本武尊が千駄木の地に創建したと伝えられている。現在地は江戸時代、甲府宰相・松平綱重の山手屋敷跡であり、のちに六代将軍となる徳川家宣の誕生の地であった。五代将軍・徳川綱吉は家宣の産土神として宝永3年（1706）に千駄木にあった社をこの地に移して、社領500石を附し、権現造の社殿を造営した。

社殿は拝殿・本殿と両者を接続する弊殿（相の間）からなり、しかも一つの屋根でまとめ、権現造の完成された姿をみせている。拝殿前に唐門を配し、その左右から透塀で社殿を囲んでいる。唐門前方の楼門を含め、権現造神社建築様式の旧規を示すものとしてすべて国指定重要文化財である。

祭神は須佐之男命、大山咋命、誉田別命、大国主命、菅原道真公である。

境内には「家宣の胞衣塚」（区指定民族文化財）、「塞の大神碑」などがある。

赤穂浪士ゆかりの寺

台東区谷中5丁目8番28号　観音寺

赤穂浪士の吉良邸討入りは「忠臣蔵」の題材として、広く世に知られている。

47士に名をつらねる近松勘六行重と奥田貞右衛門行高は、当寺で修行していた文良の兄と弟であった。文良とは、のち当寺第6世となった朝山大和尚のことである。

寺伝によれば、文良は浪士らにでき得る限りの便宜をはかり、寺内ではしばしば彼らの会合が開かれたという。明治末の福本日南の著作『元禄快挙録』には、勘六は死にのぞみ「今日の仕儀勘六喜んで身罷ったと、長福寺の文良へお伝え下されたい」と遺言したというエピソードが記されている。当寺はもと長福寺と称し、享保元年（1716）観音寺と改称した。

本堂に向かって右側にある宝篋印塔は、47士慰霊塔として古くから伝えられ、現在でも霊を弔う人が訪れている。上部に四方仏を表す種子（梵字）、下部に宝篋印陀羅尼経、宝永4年（1707）3月吉日、長福寺6世朝山の名を刻む。

Temple noted in connection with the 47 akoroshis

47 akoroshis are widely known in Japan through the story “Chushingura” which describes 47 samurais of Ako ( present Hyogo prefecture ) who avenged their master Asano Naganori by making a raid on his foe Kira Yoshinaka. Two of 47 Akoroshis, Chikamatsu Kanroku Yukishige and Okuda Sadaemon Yukitaka, were brothers of Bunryo who was studying at this temple. Bunryo later became the 6th head bonze of this temple and was named the Great Bonze Chozan.

Bunryo is said to have done all he could to help Akoroshis and it is said that they held many meetings at this temple. The book called “Genroku kaikyoroku” written by Fukumoto Nichinan in the late Meiji period mentions that Kanroku left his last words “Please tell Bunryo in the Chofukuji Temple that I am willing to give my life to avenge the death of my master today”. This temple was originally called the Chofukuji Temple and was renamed the Kannonji Temple in 1716.

The pagoda to the right of the main hall is known as a memorial tower of Akoroshis and people still visit it today. On the upper part of the pagoda was engraved Sanskrit words that stand for the Buddhas in the north, the south, the east and the west. On the lower part, Hokyoindaranikyo ( a sutra ) and on March in 1707, the name of the 6th Head Bonze of this temple Chozan was engraved.
