旧イギリス領事館（開港記念館）
函館市
箱館にイギリス領事館が置かれたのは、安政６年（1859年）日本最初の貿易港として開港した時のことで、箱館ではアメリカ、ロシアに次いで３番目の領事館として、初代領事ホジソンが称名寺に開設した。文久３年（1863年）に現在の元町のハリストス正教会の西隣に領事館を新築したが、数度の火災にあった。
この建物は、イギリス政府工務省上海工事局の設計により、大正２年（1913年）に竣工したものであり、昭和９年（1934年）の閉鎖まで領事館として使用されていた。
平成４年（1992）８月からは、開港記念ホール、開港の歴史を伝える展示室、旧外国公館の雰囲気の中でお茶やお菓子を楽しめるカフェを設け、一般公開している。
Former British Consulate (Port Opening Memorial Hall)

The British Consulate was established in 1859 in Shomyoji Temple after Hakodate’s port was opened under the Treaty of Amity and Commerce with the United States. It was the third consulate in Hakodate, following the American and the Russian Consulates. The first consul was a Mr. Hodgson. In 1863, a consulate building was constructed in Motomachi, on the west side of the Russian Orthodox Church, however it was burnt several times. The present building, completed in 1913, was designed in Shanghai by the British Engineering Department. It was used as the British Consulate until it was closed in 1934. In August 1992 the building was renovated to its current form and opened to the public.
